Catering International Services is a family-owned and French company based in Marseille. In the most isolated, hostile or logistically complex environments, we provide on-site catering, hospitality and facilities management services for energy, mining and construction. We are present in more than 20 countries (Africa, LATAM, Central Asia) and manage 380 operating sites.

 

Objective: The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing diesel-powered equipment, including generators, engines for light and heavy vehicles, and related systems. This role requires technical expertise, a keen attention to detail, and strong troubleshooting skills to efficiently resolve mechanical issues. The technician will play a key role in ensuring continuous operational performance while adhering to safety standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines and generators.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues in diesel-powered systems
  • Replace or repair defective parts such as injectors, fuel pumps, and filters.
  • Perform overhauls and rebuild of engines with supervision of the head of mechanical team
  • Ensure the proper functioning of generators, including installation, startup, and shutdown procedures.
  • Monitor generator performance and address any operational issues promptly.
  • Conduct load testing and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust mechanical components to optimize performance
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Provide detailed reports on mechanical issues, repairs performed, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in diesel and generator operations.
  • Contribute to achieve KPIs score as per client recommendation.
  •  Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to identify the required spare parts & consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

 

Relationship:

  • Follow management instructions and meetings

 

Administrative:

  • Prepare various reports (Monthly progress report, anomaly report, Materials request reports incidents, accidents, damages and technical, etc.) during vacation of head of mechanical department.
  • Place orders, follow inventories of spare parts & consumables during vacation of head of mechanical department.
  • Follow and update the maintenance preventive & corrective through the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).

 

Job in rotation 12 weeks ON and 4 weeks OFF 

Freelance and international contract 

Based in Eritrea on camp 

Profil

Education

  • Technical diploma or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field
  • Fluent English.

 

Experience

  • Proven experience in maintaining and repairing diesel engines and generators (minimum 3-5 years).
  • Familiarity with various generator brands and models is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of QHSE standards.


Personal Skills

  • Valid driver’s license for operating company vehicles
  • Have management skills to lead a team performing multiple activities.
  • Have Interpersonal and communication skills, be good at explaining.
  • Be organised, autonomous and reactive.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
